Admittedly, among the more than 50 million Peugeot passenger cars built to date, the 404 series convertibles are a vanishing minority. Perhaps this is why they are among the most exciting creations in the long history of the brand with the lion. Exactly 10,398 units left the assembly lines in Sochaux between 1962 and 1968. The open 404 bodies had already undergone a long journey. Because the probably most beautiful Peugeot of the post-war period was built in stages. The bodyshells were laid on keel at Pininfarina in the Turin suburb of Gruliasco, then transported by train and truck to Peugeot and assembled there. Cooperation between the Italian design and body manufacturer and Peugeot was already a tradition at the time. The normal 404 limousine was also a Pininfarina design. The Turin master drew a linear, modern sedan based on his Florida II study, which had caused a sensation at the 1957 Turin Salon.
Even more than 50 years after its presentation, the 404 Cabriolet still looks unrivalled simple and elegant. There is nothing superimposed, intentional or even boastful about it. And it is completely unsportsmanlike practically all open cars of today. It invites you to enjoy the road and the ride in it.
Very good condition. Good paint, as good as new top, technology serviced and very well maintained, brakes all around new. Rear needs restoration
4-cylinder injection engine with the Kugelfischer injection system; One of the masterpieces from the pen of Pininfarina.
