"TR" stands for Triumph Roadster. The series consists of 8 models that, from the TR 1 to the TR 6, are a further development of the preceding model. Only the TR 7 and 8 were really new concepts, but they were meant to continue the TR line and are therefore also described in this article.
The TR 4 took a long time. At Triumph people were convinced of the need to replace the TR 3a, but they were shocked by the high development costs and the start of the production of the new TR. It was also not possible to agree on the design at management level. Eventually they agreed on a design by Giovanni Michelotti. The old chassis was taken over unchanged, but there were numerous differences:
The engine capacity had increased drastically.
Gearbox was fully synchronized.
The bodywork was totally new and one completely matched the style of that decade.
The doors were fitted with hinged windows, the comfort had increased considerably and the luggage space was also considerably larger. The TR4 was built until 1965 in a circulation of 40,253 pieces.
