Description

Circa 1900 Panhard & Levassor 16hp Rear Entrance Tonneau.Car Number: 4617Registration number: AL68Just arrived & undated.  This car has done the London to Brighton run on two prior occasions under a temporary passport so is no longer eligible to run under the passport scheme. The car is a 16HP model with a big 4 cylinder engine giving it an alarming turn of speed up to between 30 & 40 MPH at which speed the car far exceeds it braking capabilities on anything other then a long straight deserted road.  It is eligible for an assortment of events including the Austrian Khevenhüller-Metsch rally in Velden am Wörthersee or the Irish Gordon Bennet etc.The car is in spectacular freshly restored condition.  The axles to the car are original as is the engine.  The body is of more recent manufacture & the gear box is not original either having been made in recent years.  It is fitted with a self starter & a modern oil pump making it easy to use when compared to many others.  Gears are sequential first through fourth being engaged in a linear fashion by pushing the gear lever ever further forwards.  The gears are very easy to engage both up & down; a neutral being found between each gear.  Converesly, reverse is found by pulling the lever back.  Starting is as simple as: A). Turn on the Fuel Under the seat. B). Turn on the left hand oiler. C). Flick the dual ignition jelly switches downwards. D). Lift up on the concealed starter button under the right of the front seat & off she goes.  Two huge chains transmit the drive to the rear axle. The car is festooned with the usual quotient of brass lamps, mirrors, horns & other ancilliary items.  A tonneau cover is supplied to cover the car when parked & protect it from the elements.  This is a big spectacular veteran which whilst lacking the purity of an all original car is none the less a fantastic car to drive as we can attest having taken it to our local pub on a sunday afternoon.
