Built on 7th December 1954, this original RHD home market Austin Healey 100 BN1 is believed to have been upgraded with the dealer-fit P280 Le Mans kit around the time of its first registration in April 1955. Photos are provided in the gallery below showing the car both prior to and after the conversion and show the car in a rally or possible road-race prepared guise with aero screens and spot lamps. The car still retains an original Le Mans ‘YH13 40520A’ type distributor, cold air box and plaques believed to be original to the upgrade but the car is not registered with the 100M registrar but is a worthy candidate for research. We have been in contact with the 2nd purchaser who owned the car from just a few hundred miles, owner of Ashby Garage Leicester a Austin Dealer whom fitted the kit after selling it to his neighbour when the car was just a few years old.
The car, first delivered to Marshalls Limited of Cambridge and Peterborough, remains matching engine and chassis numbers and is in its original colours of Carmine Red exterior with Black half leather interior with Red piping and its original body number is still presented on the car. The car also retains the Peterborough number plate of DFL 217.
Today the car is presented in very clean in good condition with bodywork being restored in December 2010 by Bexons Auto Classics, with further work in 2012. We have looked after the car for the last few ownerships. The YH13 Le Mans model distributor was rebuilt by distributor doctor.
Additional upgrades of front discs brakes, starter, an upgraded radiator with high efficiency fan and three-point seatbelts are also fitted.
