A rare coachbuilt Silver Cloud 1 that has resided in the sunny climes of southern California for a large part of its life. It was in the last few years bought back to the UK, registered & has then been kept in a private garage alongside a small selection of other Rolls Royce motor cars.
The exterior is clad with an aluminium body to Hoopers design number 8425. Hugely expensivce when new these coachbuilt cars sold for almost double what a standard steel car cost & were the epitome of opulence & indulgence. The rear doors hinge open from the back allowing for easy ingress & egress of back seat passengers.
The car is finished in champagne over silver sand;, colours which suit it admirably, the paint being in very fine order. To the interior is beige leather front & back again in fine condition with the front seat cushions having been redone. Large walnut Hooper picnic tables are fitted to the seat backs. The car is showing 85,000 miles which we believe to be correct given how well the car drives.
Mechanically the car is spot on. The engine starts instantly & is a paragon of smoothness. Likwise the suspension & steering are supple yet play free having a tight feel to them. The brakes are also excellent having been attended to upon the cars arrival on these shores. The boot is capacious allowing for a large quantity of luggage to be carried. Under the bonnet the car is in very original & tidy condition that would serve it well if exhibited at a show. Gear changes from the automatic box, likewise are a seamless affair.
