ALFA ROMEO 2000 SPIDER BY TOURING LEFT HAND DRIVE

DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1960 | COLOUR: GRAND PRIX WHITE | INTERIOR TRIM: RED LEATHER

FULLY RESTORED, VERY RARE AND LOW MILEAGE ALFA ROMEO 2000 SPIDER WITH COACHWORK BY TOURING OF MILAN

MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION
After its unveiling at the 1957 Turin Motorshow as a replacement for the 1900 Super, the 2000 (Tipo 102) was Alfa Romeo’s flagship long distance touring GT produced between 1958 and 1962.

It was available as a standard 4-door saloon, but also as a Bertone-styled coupe, and as an elegant 2-seater spider, designed and built by Touring of Milan.

The standard engine was a 4 -cylinder 1975cc development of the unit used in the outgoing 1900. Featuring a robust iron block with twin chain-driven camshafts, hemispherical combustion chambers, aluminium head and twin carburetors, the enlarged engine produced 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) at 5300 rpm. The Spider shared the same engine, but with power increased to 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) at 5700 rpm, allowing it a top speed of 100mph plus.

With a slick 5-speed manual transmission, fully independent front suspension, live rear axle, and effective finned alloy drum brakes, the Alfa Romeo 2000 proved to be an enjoyable, well-balanced car to drive with safe and predictable handling – in many ways a more relaxed and sophisticated drive than the more common Giulietta.

The 2000 was replaced in 1962 by the 6-cylinder Alfa Romeo 2600.
