Description

This car chassis number DB6/2420/R was produced at Newport Pagnell and sold in October 1967 directly from Aston Martin Lagonda Limited, license number UPP888E, to a customer based in London SW3. The build sheet shows all the original features including the Tadek Marek designed six cylinder engine in its Vantage version, engine number 400/2456/V - achieving 325bhp delivered through the ZF five speed manual gearbox and effectively making it the fastest road car of its era.
We understand the car had three owners, being held by a Northamptonshire family from the mid 1980's through to 2006 and serviced by Desmond Smail of Olney. The current owner purchased the car in 2006.
During 2006 - 2009 the car underwent an extensive rebuild with the objective of bringing the vehicle back to its original condition and then through to full Concours condition. Working with Martyn Collins everything was taken back to bare metal with a full body off rework, indeed down to the last rivet, all base parts were powder coated and sealed. The engine, transmission and rear axle reconditioned. The entire process took almost three years and many thousand of man hours.
The Cumberland grey colour was selected in combination with a Dubonnet leather for the seats and upholstery. This reflects the original contemporary Aston Martin colour combination - the leather work and upholstery being completed by the experts Suffolk and Turley of Coventry.
The car entered its first concours event in 2010 and progressed through the ranks winning the Autumn Concours Detat 2011, Portman Trophy for best in the Newport Pagnell, six cylinder class. The car won best restoration of a post war Aston Martin - the highly prestigious John Wyer Trophy in January 2012. The car is in impeccable condition and will be pride of place in anyones collection.

The culmination of Aston Martin long running line of "DB" six cylinder sports car saloons and thus considered by many to be the last of the 'real' Aston Martin's the DB6 was introduced in 1965, essentially updating the DB5 - although recognisably related to the Touring style DB4 of 1958. A primary desgin objective was greater rear leg space and improved aerodynamics, achieved through increasing the wheel base and extensive restyle including a more-raked window screen, slightly raised roof line and reshaped rear quarter windows and incorporating a tail spoiler improving high speed stability. 'The tail lip halves the aerodynamic lift around maximum speed and brings in its train greater headroom and more luggage space' quoted from the Motor magazine who also concluded that the DB6 was one of the finest most refined sports cars it had tested. The car also benefitted from the use of power steering for the first time and then standard power assisted brakes.
