Description

Summarizing the Alfa Romeo brand is best done by stating that they are sporty cars with racing genes that are also practical. One of the very best examples of this is the Alfa Romeo GT Junior. A sporty-lined coupé which, whether in GTA form or not, has won just about everything in motorsport that there is to win. In addition, it is also one of the most beautiful 2+2s made, and so it makes sense that the Bertone-drawn coupé has such an enthusiastic fan base. The most popular of all is the early series. These are recognizable by the slit at the front of the hood, which quickly earned the car the nickname 'letterbox.' Or as in Italian, "scalino," meaning step. The headlights placed a bit further in and the flat dashboard with inlaid gauges are other typical features of this model. It is exactly that version that you see here. This '67-er GT Junior was originally delivered in Italy and has a number of points that make it a very interesting car. First, the color scheme: although red and white are very popular because of their link to racing, Bluette with red upholstery is one of the most stylish combinations that could be chosen. Another plus is its very original condition. In the distant past, the car has already had a new coat of paint in the color in which it left the factory, but otherwise the car is in very original condition. It creates a look that immediately causes a big smile. Where many "letterboxes" these days are converted into GTA look-a-likes or at least tuned for the modern, sporty driver, this Junior is still écht classic. Narrow, stylish steel wheels, a chassis at its original height and the absence of a sports steering wheel or bucket seats: this 'Bertone' is one big time travel. The sheet metal is in very good condition, rust is foreign to it. The paintwork was once renewed decades back, with small traces of time it looks like the first paint. Fittings are neat and because the car was used only sporadically and stored warm and dry, rubbers, aluminum and chrome are all in nice condition. And then the warm red interior. What a combination with the paint and what a fresh condition. Not a brand new restored car but atmosphere everywhere you look. The dashboard, controls and rubber floor covering are all unharnessed. The door panels are intact, the seat covers neat with no flaws. The GT 1300 Junior drives pleasantly and well. With its 1,290 cc metering four-cylinder double cam, it was a smooth car in its day. 90 horsepower and only 930 kilograms ensured that the sprint to 100 could be done in 12.6 seconds. That made it compete with bigger, more powerful cars. Disc brakes and a five-speed transmission were also anything but obvious in the segment. So even today it is still very enjoyable and sporty driving with this GT Junior. With the car comes a stack of invoices and documentation of its past in Italy. This coupé has been known to us for a very long time and therefore find it extra nice to be able to offer this very sympathetic Alfa Romeo. As far as we are concerned, this classic is the ideal choice for someone looking for a pure and original Bertone from the 1960s.
