General product information / own input:

With the Fiat and Abarth combination, enthusiasts will remember with melancholy the various variants that appeared between 1957 and 1970 based on the 500 and the 600. You know, those tiny 'bowler hats'. Especially the later versions of that period, for example 850 TC and 1000 TC, appeal to the imagination. Think of the extra air intake 'glued' to the front bumper and the open tailgate; Talk about characteristic!

Carlo Abarth has made it his life's work to demonstrate that you could experience a lot of sporty fun with small cars. That you could also race with it was proven on the various European circuits, where the Abarth caused a furore. There is still a group of enthusiasts who give the old Italian racing cars the spurs during various historical competitions, such as those of the Dutch HARC. Cool to see them drifting, with the inner front wheel in the air and howling through the corner at over 8,000 rpm. The experience really spas off.

We cannot escape feelings of nostalgia when we are confronted with the new 500 Abarth. Certainly not because it is painted in the same, typical matte gray as the racers of yesteryear. The large air intake in the nose is also reminiscent of the old Abarth, and with a little imagination you can see the prominent roof spoiler above the rear window as a nod to the tailgate of the time. The difference is that today's cake server has a mainly aerodynamic function - namely reducing drag -, while the open flap of that time was intended to let warm air escape from the engine compartment. Nowadays the power source is of course in the front, and the drive has moved from the rear wheels to the front wheels. Anyway, that doesn't necessarily have to be at the expense of character.
