Description

There are cars that are beyond dispute. Not among collectors, nor among historians. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta is unquestionably one of them. And some examples stand a cut above the rest. This is one such Ferrari. It is one of the most original 250 GT SWBs still in existence. In the early 1960s, Ferrari was at a turning point. Experience from racing was no longer “carried over” to the street version. The street version became the starting point for competition. The 250 GT SWB was a decisive step in this direction. Shorter, lighter, and more responsive than its predecessor. A Ferrari that remained composed at high speeds and inspired confidence on the sharpest corners. Without this Ferrari, the later 250 GTO simply would not have been possible.Only 165 SWB Berlinettas were built, in steel and aluminum. This example belongs to the steel versions: the more refined, versatile variant, intended for those who wanted performance without compromising on usability. Under the Scaglietti bodywork lies the famous 2,953 cc Colombo V12. Three Weber 36 DCS carburetors, approximately 240 hp at 7,000 rpm, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Mechanics in its purest form. No explanation needed. Combined with the compact wheelbase and balanced suspension, this created a Ferrari that was just as convincing on public roads as it was on the track. And it proved just that. Victories at Le Mans, Sebring, the Tourist Trophy, and the Tour de France Automobile followed in rapid succession. Not just occasionally, but consistently. The rest is history. This specific example stands out for its original condition; it is almost inconceivable how original and authentic this Ferrari still is. Delivered in 1962 to the Italian industrialist Giovanni Renato Scalabrin. It has changed hands only three times since then. Owned by Ferrari collector Giulio Dubbini from 1967 to 1985. The car is unrestored. Highly original. The Grigio Metallizzato paintwork bears its age with natural elegance. The beige leather interior tells its own story, without anyone having altered it. Everything you see belongs to this Ferrari. Everything you feel is authentic. This is an experience in itself. Taking a seat in a legendary Ferrari is special enough, but to take a seat in an unrestored 250 GT SWB? That’s practically unheard of. This means a Ferrari with beautiful patina—but note, the right kind of patina. We’re in love with this Ferrari and can’t get enough of it.The engine is matching numbers. Its history is fully documented, including a comprehensive report by Marcel Massini. For connoisseurs, this SWB is considered one of the most original examples still in existence. And that is precisely what makes it so exceptional. You are not looking at an icon here, but at the benchmark for others. A Ferrari of this caliber requires no explanation. Only attention and respect. Are you interested in one of the most original Ferrari 250 GT SWBs?
