Description

Unveiled to the world at the 1984 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari Testarossa would become nothing short of a legend. With a 0-100 kph acceleration time of just over five seconds and a top speed of near 290 kph, its performance and dramatic styling had enthusiasts falling head over heels for Ferrari’s newest flat-12 creation. It soon became the poster child for a generation with numerous appearances in movies, music videos, and television shows—most notably in a starring role in Miami Vice alongside Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

The Testarossa offered here is a desirable early production example, dubbed the "Monospecchio" or “flying mirror” in Ferrari parlance, and widely considered more attractive than later versions. This car was supplied in March 1986 via Ferrari dealership Motor S.P.A. in Bologna to its first owner, and is one of the very few examples ordered with a twin flying mirror set-up. This was an expensive optional equipment and only available during a couple of months in early 1986. Despite the fact that this extra mirror hardly gives extra visibility, it nicely balances the design of the car and gives it a high collector's rate because of this very rare specification.

The car is still in very original condition, and has been part of the same private collection since 2014. The car has hardly done 300 km in these last 10 years and kept in very good condition. We do not have much information before a major overhaul at 40.000 km in 1994, when the car was already in French hands. The car was sold by the dealer First Automobile on September 20, 1994 to a cautious collector in Eastern France, who owned the car till June 2013. In 2004, at 58.811 km exact, another extensive service - for the 60.000 km one - was carried out by the Wirandy Brothers Garage in Luxembourg for 10.000 EUR. In June 2011, the owner bought all the parts needed for a major service at Pozzi (invoices included). The clutch plate was changed at 72.500 km, and the distributor was changed at 62.000 km in 2011.
When purchased the last owner had it completely serviced by Belgian Ferrari specialist L'Officina and registered on a Belgian numberplate at a mileage of 74.010 km. The Ferrari has now 74.104 km on the clocks and will get a new service before delivery once it is sold. The Testarossa comes with the original manual, toolkit and tailormade car cover.

Every enthusiast who came of age in the eighties wanted a Testarossa, and the early “flying mirror” variant is the most desirable. This well-preserved example with rare twin flying mirrors is even a bit more special and a great addition to any sportscar collection.
