Description

Make: Fiat Model: Abarth 750 GT Zagato This 1960 Fiat Abarth 750 GT Zagato Coupe, known as the "Double Bubble," has been owned and loved by the same enthusiast for 62 years. It runs and drives fantastic and features many performance upgrades .The car is painted Bianco with a U.S. racing team blue stripe. The previous owner purchased it from his boss in 1964 and has maintained it ever since. It was stored in a barn in a small rural village in upstate New York before being towed to his driveway, where restoration work began. He managed to get the car back on the road and enjoyed it for several years until the mid-1970s, when he decided to rebuild the engine. During this rebuild, the original engine and transaxle went missing while out of the car awaiting rebuilding and reinstallation. He sourced a replacement engine from a Fiat-Abarth OT-1000 Spider. Before installation, the OT-1000 engine was refreshed and fitted with new 66 mm Arias forged aluminum pistons. The crankshaft was balanced to 15,000 RPM at a professional shop. During reassembly, all moving parts were weighed and matched to within 0.1 grams, resulting in a smooth and strong-running engine to this day. Over the years, the car has received several modifications, including a Hewland Mk4 4-speed manual transaxle with quick change gears. True to Abarth tradition, the car was upgraded with the best technology available at the time to enhance strength and speed. The previous owner aimed to modify the car as if the Abarth factory had continued production.
