The Fiat 508 Balilla was built according to the typical standards of 1930s automotive engineering, with a simple yet extremely robust structure. The chassis features steel side members and cross members, separate from the body, ensuring sturdiness and ease of maintenance. The body is constructed from sheet metal panels mounted on a load-bearing frame, designed to withstand the test of time even on rough road surfaces, as was common at the time.
The suspension features a rigid axle at both the front and rear, combined with transverse and longitudinal leaf springs—a simple and reliable configuration prioritizing durability over modern comfort. The braking system consists of mechanical drum brakes on all four wheels, operated via a linkage system.
