Description

motodrome are very pleased to offer for sale this magnificent Capri – a 1970 3000GT

Finished in Silver Fox with matt black bonnet, black vinyl roof, and black interior.

In standard trim throughout, so Rostyle wheels, correct dealer fit wing mirrors, the Essex 3.0 V6 motor, and 4-speed manual gearbox. The only additions or deviations from original spec that we can find are an electric cooling fan, high-torque starter motor, and a stainless exhaust.

The current odometer reading is 34000 miles, which, whist we can’t warrant it, may be correct, and the V5 shows 5 previous owners including two titled owners in the same family.

There are bills for significant restoration in 2007 including front wing repair panels, front valance, both outer sills, both A pillars, both rear arches and rear valances, and it seems to have covered a mere 4000 miles since.
At the same time the interior was restored with new seat facings front and rear, new door cards, new headlining, and the vinyl roof was replaced.

Around the same time the engine was reputedly rebuilt by Frank Griffin, a Warwickshire based specialist, although we don’t have any documentation for this.

The last owner bought it via a classic auction in 2022, when it was described as ‘SORNED for a couple of years and requiring some recommissioning’
As is often the case with auction sales, where you don’t get to drive a car, it turned out it needed rather more than that, and the last owner has lavished over £12000.00 on it over the past 2 years to bring it up to scratch, (in his words ‘they went through it front to back’) and make it drive as it does now.

History wise, we have lots of bills for the recent work and the 2007 restoration, and old MOT’s back to 2004 when it had an odometer reading of 29831m. We also have an owners handbook and some Ford promo material about ‘The Car You Always Promised Yourself…

Overall, it’s a fine, thoroughly sorted example of a very desirable early Capri, with the sought after GT specification and the Essex V6 motor. It’s probably the nicest one I’ve seen outside of concours trailer queens.

It’s RFL, MOT and ULEZ exempt – what better way to drive around London?

On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
