1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner for sale
It's time to try something different, and that's why this US car in absolute show condition is for sale.
Here you get both a hardtop and convertible in one and the same car, as the entire roof can be lowered into the trunk in 40-45 seconds. This is done electrically with 1 button, and of course works as it should. This attracts a lot of attention...if you're not into that, you'll probably have to find another car.
Everything was newly chromed in 2010 and is like new, and the 2-tone paint from 2017 is like a mirror.
This example is originally from San Jose California, and restored exclusively with original and NOS parts.
It's the top of the line with rare equipment such as air conditioning, all 4 electric windows, 4-way electric front seat, continental kit, and the big 352 engine. Power steering and brake booster.
Ford's retractable hardtop was only produced from 1957-59 under the name Skyliner. It was the world's first mass-produced retractable hardtop. The designer was Gil Spear.
Ford's 1959 models received the Gold Medal for "Exceptional Styling" at the Brussels World's Fair, by the Comite Francais des L'élégance of Paris.
Some engineering work was required to get the roof to go up and down.
The entire function is controlled by 4 lift arms, 3 drive motors, 4 latch motors, 10 relays, 10 contactors, 8 switches and 185 meters of wire.
It came to Denmark in 2015. A previous owner from Canada had the car from 1979-2015.
It has participated in assessments in the USA at the Ford International Retractable Club in 1983, 1985 and 1995.
Here a 100% perfect original model gets 1000 points. Dirty foot pedals, for example, deduct 1 point per pedal
It got 927 points in 1995. Some of the things that deducted the most were paint -26, chrome -20, incorrect wheel covers -8, incorrect exhaust -12.
The "missing" points have since been corrected. Among other things, painted in 2017, all newly chromed in 2010.
A rating today would be close to 1000 points.
