Description

Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa is proud to offer this rare 402 propelled, 1963 Galaxie 500 XL! When Ford needed to catch up to the competition in the early sixties, they bored out their venerable FE work horse from 390ci to 402ci. Then Ford baked in some hi-performance spice into the heads, carbs and cam and the Legendary 405hp 402 v8 was born! This motor was the basis for Ford’s amazing hi-po big block bruisers of the mid to late 60s like the 427, and 428 Cobra Jet. This 1963 Galaxie XL, 2dr coupe is everything street racers would have ordered back in 1963. Black paint, 2dr post body, no AC, no power steering, no power brakes. If it didn’t make it fast, it wasn’t checked off. The seller claims the 406 is the rebuilt original motor topped with three two-barrel carburetors and spinning a Top Loader, four-speed manual. The clutch is heavy and stiff like a good 60s street fighter should be. The 448lb/ft of torque is put to the ground through a 28 spline, open rear with a 3.50 final gear ratio. This the car can move; mash the gas and it’ll take you back in time! When you’re not behind the wheel, you’ll notice the rust-free black body, dent and ding free chrome bumpers and trim, over a lovely light blue interior. The car is a well-preserved restoration and was blessed with many period-correct parts such as big pully generator, original 406 flags and Stewart Warner tach and oil gauge. The only thing not working on this bruiser is the radio. This old school Q-ship needs a lead footed driver, is it you?
