Ford really had nothing left to prove at Le Mans in 2016. The brand had already made history there fifty years earlier with the GT40. But that’s exactly why they decided to return—not with a retro car that looked primarily to the past, but with a completely new GT that was developed from the ground up with racing in mind. And the best part? Ford won again at Le Mans, exactly fifty years after the famous victory of 1966. That story alone makes the modern Ford GT special. But the Carbon Series takes it a step further. Ford introduced this model as a lighter and more extreme version of the standard GT. Weight was reduced through features such as a titanium exhaust system, titanium wheel nuts, carbon-fiber wheels, and a polycarbonate rear hatch. At the same time, the car remained street-legal and retained features such as air conditioning, a radio, and the SYNC3 system. It strikes just the right balance: less weight where it counts, but without limiting its use to the racetrack. The Carbon Series is also instantly recognizable. Visible carbon fiber runs as striping across the body and is featured on the A-pillars, the lower part of the doors, and in the interior, among other places. This particular example is finished in Shadow Black with visible carbon fiber, and it looks exceptionally good. It is estimated that approximately fifty units of the Carbon Series were built. This makes this version—within the already limited production run of the modern Ford GT—a rare model. The Ford GT we are offering was ordered new and delivered in Europe and has only 1,500 kilometers on the odometer. Its condition is therefore practically exactly as you would expect for such a low mileage. Beneath the body lies perhaps the most interesting part of the story. The modern GT was developed with a carbon-fiber monocoque and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. This wasn’t chosen to evoke nostalgia, but because Ford wanted to build a car that could truly perform at the highest level. That gives the GT something truly special: it looks exotic, but its technology is, above all, functional. The proportions, the open air intakes, the low seating position, and the active rear wing weren’t designed to create a poster car. They’re there because that’s how the car was meant to function. And precisely because of that, it ultimately did become a poster car.
