The Thunderbird is a 2 seat convertible that was unveiled in 1953 by Ford as a prototype in response to Chevrolet’s new Corvette. In September of 1954 it was released to the public as a 1955 model. Although it shared some characteristics of other Fords such as the circular headlamps and tail lamps as well as modest tail fins it was distinguished with a sleeker shape, a 150mph speedometer and a hood scoop. It was offered to compete with the Corvette but was advertised as a personal car of distinction with a greater emphasis on the cars comfort and convenience features. It was still quite powerful with its reliable 292ci Y-block V8. This particular example is a 2 family car that was optioned in Thunderbird Blue with a Turquoise and White interior and currently has 50,330 original miles. It was also optioned with the Ford-O-Matic 3 speed automatic transmission, power windows, power seats and a hard top. The original owner sold it to the current family in 1981 with just under 35,000 miles. In 2002 a new interior was installed as was a Holley 600cfm 4 barrel carb. In 2007 it was repainted in its original color and the chrome work was all redone. In 2014 at 49,036 miles it received a new radiator, gaskets for both the intake and the carb, a full tune up and a complete brake job. It was last serviced in 2021 at 49,865 miles and has only been driven 465 miles since. The time has come to find a new home for this beauty and we have priced it to make it quick and painless for the current owner so if you like what you see the time to contact us is now!
