The 1916 Ford Model T is a true icon in automotive history, a model that changed the world of mobility forever. Henry Ford's goal was to build an affordable car for the masses, and he did just that with the Model T, affectionately called the "Tin Lizzie." The Model T was a symbol of freedom, and it was the first car that could be purchased by many, thanks in part to the innovative production methods Ford employed. This particular 1916 coupe version is a great example of this groundbreaking model, with an extensive restoration that honors its historic charm while updating the technology for reliability and driving pleasure.
Under the hood is a '26 engine completely rebuilt by JM Machine in Southboro, MA, equipped with several improvements that take the car's performance and reliability to the next level. The engine is balanced and features aluminum pistons, a high-compression cylinder head and a 280 camshaft, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. The new starter motor, 6-volt alternator and distributor are modern additions that ensure the car starts with ease and operates reliably. With only 500 miles on the clock since the overhaul, the engine is in top condition.
The transmission of this Model T has been thoroughly overhauled to include a Jack Rabbit clutch, wide brake drum and Kevlar tires, contributing to improved durability and driving experience. The new gears, pins and flywheel make this classic Ford not only historically interesting, but also practical. The car's suspension has been completely redone with new kingpins, wheel bearings and a so-called "Fat Man" steering wheel, known for its distinctive shape and user-friendliness. The wheels have been rebuilt with new spokes and rims, and new tires and tubes ensure that this Model T is ready for many miles of fun on the road. The new paint and pinstriping give the car back its classic look, showing off the original lines of the design beautifully.
At the rear of the car, the complete drivetrain has been rebuilt, including new axles, universal joints, rings and pinions, and floating hubs. The addition of Rocky Mountain brakes provides additional stopping power, a welcome improvement that greatly enhances safety. These modernizations make this Model T not only more beautiful, but also more reliable and safer in modern traffic.
To get a good idea of the car, we recommend coming to one of the viewing days.
