The history of the Hans Glas works ended tragically with the takeover of BMW at the end of 1966. The last big hit was the big coupé, which was presented for the first time at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1965 in the 2.6 liter version. The further development was the 3 liter V8 coupe, which was sold under the direction of BMW until 1968. In total there are just over 400 pieces. been produced. The then relatively unknown Pietro Frua was responsible for the design and the body shell. This designer was also responsible for the Maserati Quattroporte, which is why the V8 Glas was also nicknamed "Glaserati". The line of this extraordinary sports car was simply a sensation at the time. Technically, the Glas with its two overhead camshafts and two toothed belts was absolutely up to date. The chassis with a DeDion rear axle and automatic leveling also set standards. Disc brakes all around paid the necessary tribute to the driving safety aspect. The relatively high price of almost 24,000 DM and the lack of support from the new owner, BMW, prevented this exceptional sports car from achieving greater success.
Offered by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia, this glass V8 with its relatively low mileage has been deregistered for almost 30 years in the late 80's. The last owner woke it carefully from its slumber and left it largely in its original condition. The paint was certainly renewed in the 1970s or early 1980s, but otherwise this vehicle is largely in technically good and original condition. The toothed belt has been freshly changed. The interior is simply unique with its fantastic cockpit, dashboard collection, as well as the well-kept seats and carpet. It's a piece of automotive history and who knows if it hadn't been for sale to BMW this Glas V8 would not have been a much bigger hit. A rare luxury sports coupé with an excellent price-performance ratio. It is a very good investment, but also offers wonderful and dynamic driving pleasure.
