Description

There are some small car manufacturers that we actually know very little about. Isdera is one such company. The Germany-based “Ingenieurbüro für Styling, DEsign und RAcing” was founded by Eberhard Schulz. In 1978, together with Rainer Buchmann, who was also known for the B&B Porsches with the renown rainbow striping, they built the iconic BB-Mercedes CW 311. This car was considered to be one of the absolute Supercars of the 1980s. It was later better known as the Isdera Imperator. This ultimate sports car, of which just 30 copies were built between 1984 and 1993, remains until today an absolute curiosity that is rarely ever seen. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1987, the open version was presented to the public: the Isdera Spyder 036i. The futuristic and unique appearance of the Spyder ensured, together with its impressive performance, that the car was embraced by car journalists and enthusiasts. The Isdera Spyder 036i had only one drawback... its price! The cars were all produced by hand under the supervision of Mr Schulz in Hildesheim, Germany and according to the wishes of the customer. This customization resulted in unique cars so that, as with other models, no two identical Spyders left the factory. In five years time, only 17 Isdera Spyders were built. The example we are proud to offer you today has had only one owner, Mr Rimek from Hamburg. The configuration of the Spyder was determined in consultation with Mr Schulz and in August 1989 the car was ready to hit the road. Rimek was proud of his possession and enjoyed his dream car as soon as the weather conditions allowed. Until recently, it was a regular sight in Hamburg’s streets and its surroundings. This red example, with a weight of just 920 kilos, is equipped with a Mercedes 3000cc 24 valve 6-cylinder mid-engine which transmits 231hp to the rear wheels. In combination with the ultimate sports suspension and ideal weight distribution, this resulted in a phenomenal performance for its time: from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, and a top speed of more than 230 km per hour. This is truly an experience in an open car without a windscreen! This Isdera Spyder 036i is in an unrestored, original condition. Just turn the key and go is all you need to do. Over the years, either side of the car have caught normal traces of use, which makes for a beautiful patina. The history of the car is extensively documented and includes the original registration certificate in the name of the first and only owner. In addition, this specific example has been featured in articles and photo shoots in car magazines quite regularly, and various of these magazines and books have been preserved and come with this car. This is a unique opportunity to obtain a car that is a very rare and most obvious curiosity in the world of collectors.
