Description

Gateway Classic Cars Las Vegas is proud to present, this restored, 1970 International Harvester 1200D! Compared to the Ford vs Chevy Truck battle of the 60s-70, Dodge was a third-place also-ran. Following up Dodge was the reliable and solid tractor and heavy truck producer, International. Thanks to their tractor and heavy truck experience, International trucks had a tradition of extreme utility and versatility. With proto-SUVs like the Scout and medium duty trucks such as the Fleetstar and Loadstar being ubiquitous in everything from government service, construction, or rural heavy hauling. Ford and Chevy may have bragged about their utilitarian ability, but International actually 'paid the bills' doing heavy utility work.
This 1970 1200D is a good example of this. Spec'd by the original owner with dual tanks, AC, 4WD, heavy duty bumpers, a winch, spotlights, steep 4:09 and 4:10 axle gearing, and a heavy-duty Borg-Warner 3 speed automatic, mated to the biggest, burliest, V8 International made: the 392ci V8! This truck has had one owner since new. After years of faithful service, it was treated to a frame off restoration. EVERY part was either reconditioned, rebuilt or replaced in a quest to return this big, red, work horse to as-new factory condition. It even smells like new vinyl, plastic and rubber in the cab. This truck was redone in a way that only someone who experienced it new could. Everything works as it did in 1970, from the 4WD to the cab lights on the roof. It's almost too nice to put back to work!
International Harvester medium duty trucks are few and far between these days. So much so that it's almost impossible to put a value on a truck such as this example. Many were worked to a tired, rusted, lump and left for dead. This one was lovingly restored to its original glory. This an example of what International Harvester was all about in 1970. Better yet, add it for your collection, and share it with future generations!
