Description

2 Owner, 1961 Jaguar 3.8 MK 2

This car was purchased in 1969 by an 18 year old girl who's husband was very much into British cars. As they got older, they joined the Jaguar Club of Southern New England. They were both very active in the day. Then, her husband passed away maybe 15 years ago. Another member of the same club lost his wife in around the same time. They knew each other from the club and started hanging out together and a year or so later, they married. They were together for the last 10 years give or take and she passed away a few years ago. Sadly, her widower just passed away a few months ago and I've been brought on board to assist in selling a couple his/their cars. This 61 Cotswold Blue Jaguar 3.8 MK 2 is one of them.
He was an engineer as was her first husband and so this car was very well taken care of.
In the last 15 years the block was replaced (but the original high compression head was kept) and all rebuilt, the paint was resprayed at least 10 years ago and the red leather interior was reupholstered only a few years ago, just before she passed.
The MK 2 has always been a driven car but has won awards at the JCSNE car shows and concours.
The 3.8 is the more desirable as the engine was plucked from the E-type and offers great acceleration and the 5 link rear and 4 wheel disc brakes create a wonderfully handling package.

The MK 2 was the car that inspired Sir William Lyons to coin the phrase " Grace, Space and Pace" .

The MK 2 features a red leather interior with fold down picnic trays in back along with a fold out center arm rest in the back seat. This particular MK left Coventry with quite a few options. Power steering, 4 wheel power disc brakes, a speed holder (rudimentary cruise control) multi speed wipers, vent windows front and rear, night time mirror, multiple interior lights, burlwood trim, two speed fan, Lucas Ranger driving/ fog lights, full gauges and automatic transmission (Borg-Warner DG250 - Rebuilt in 2018), full stainless, dual exhaust.

The two speed fan works but makes a little noise, I couldn't figure out how to get the fog lights to work, but the family tells me they've seen them on, everything else works as it should. The red leather is immaculate, the original headliner is still in very good nick but does have one small tear on the right C pillar. The Vredstein tires are almost 10 years old but show very little wear and as they've been inside most of their life, they show no UV damage/drying.

In the trunk is the original vinyl liner and the full tool kit and jack.

The paint does show some of the age in the way of an errant scratch or small nick, but from 5' the car looks awesome, hence the reason it has taken several awards in JCNA sanctioned car shows. It still shines beautifully and over the red interior, really pops. There are 50,000 miles on the odometer and that is believed to be correct.

Turn the key, tap the gas pedal twice, hit the starter button and it fires right up and slowly settles into a strong idle. The car drives like a true sport saloon should ... with Grace, Space and Pace.

This is a turn key proposition , the wonderful Cat needing nothing to get out and enjoy all those feline attributes.

Included with the sale are roughly $70,000 in receipts and a full set of service manuals and many spare parts.

The asking price for this top of the line Jaguar is $32,500.
