Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Supercar Fest 2026 on Saturday, May 16th, at Sywell Aerodrome, Sywell, Northampton, NN6 0BN.

The Jaguar Mark IX was a large luxury saloon produced by Jaguar Cars between 1959 and 1961. Standard transmission was a 4-speed manual, with options including overdrive. Most cars, including this one, were built with a Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission.

It features an enlarged 3.8-litre, 220bhp double overhead cam straight-six engine, fuelled by twin SUs, replacing the previous 3.4-litre unit. Four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating-ball power steering are standard. The suspension includes torsion bar independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung rear live axle.

The body is similar to its predecessor, with a standard sunshine roof for the UK market. The interior is luxurious, with extensive leather, walnut wood trim, and deep pile carpet.

The Heritage Certificate confirms the car was finished in Black and Sherwood Green with a Suede Green leather interior. It was dispatched from the factory on February 12, 1960, to distributor Henlys Ltd. of London, and then to its first owner, Wintex Ltd. of Baker Street W1.

The car has been restored by renowned specialist M&C Wilkinson of Doncaster and remains matching numbers in near concours condition after approximately twenty years. It comes with a photo library of restoration images.

Although well traveled, the Jaguar has been cherished. It was previously registered in England, Ireland, and more recently in France, where it resided from 2013 to 2025. Purchased by the current owner in 2025, it was repatriated to England and regained its last UK registration number. The vendor drove it back from France over a 300-mile trip, confirming it "never missed a beat."

Following a full restoration by M&C Wilkinson, it was Highly Commended Champion of Champions at the JDC in 2003/04. It has featured on the cover of The Jaguar Drivers Magazine and was the subject of a five-page feature titled "The Finest Car in its Class in the World." The comprehensive history file includes records of owner and registration changes and detailed maintenance records from the past 20 years. The period-correct toolkit, including a grease gun, is complete.

Built during a time when Jaguar aimed to rival Rolls-Royce, this majestic Jaguar is stunning and would be a joy to own in its current condition. The enthusiast vendor will be driving the car to the auction from the West Country.
