Jaguar MK 8 1958 for saleIntroduction: The Jaguar Mark VIII, also known as the Mk8 or Mark 8, is one of those cars that has true British charm. Produced between 1956 and 1958, it built on the strengths of the earlier Mark VII with sleeker styling, more power, and an interior that feels like a proper gentleman’s club on wheels. Even today the Mark VIII still feels surprisingly capable for a large luxury saloon from the 1950s. Exterior: This Jaguar Mark VIII is finished in a two tone combination of Cornish Grey over Mist Grey. I have always thought that two tone really brings out the flowing curves of the Mk8’s bodywork, and on this car it looks spot on. The condition is very good for regular use. The paint has a nice shine with only a few small marks here and there which give it some character. The chrome work on the bumpers, headlamps and grille is excellent and catches the light beautifully. Both the exterior and interior color correspond with how the car was when it left the factory.Interior: This is where the Jaguar Mk8 really stands out for me. The dark red leather is original and has aged beautifully. It gives the cabin that unmistakable scent of classic British luxury. The colour works perfectly with the exterior shades. The carpets are in excellent condition, the interior chrome is bright and the wood veneer is attractive with just a couple of small blemishes on the backs of the front seats. The headliner is clean and above it there is a factory sunroof which is perfect for warm days when you want a little extra air. All interior functions are working apart from the stereo. It is a comfortable and inviting place to sit whether you are in the front or relaxing in the rear seats.Engine and Mechanics: Under the bonnet sits Jaguar’s 3.4 litre straight six with twin overhead cams producing 210 horsepower. This example is fitted with the rare four speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The engine has been rebuilt and there has been a lot of recent mechanical work which means the car drives very well. The gear change is tight, the overdrive makes long distance cruising easy and the exhaust note has just the right character. This Mk8 is fully matching numbers with the engine, chassis and cylinder head all corresponding.History and Documentation: This Jaguar Mark VIII was first sold in Sweden in 1958 by Fredlunds in Stockholm. Very few Mk8s were delivered new to Sweden and with only around 6200 produced worldwide it is a rare model to find here. The car is believed to have had four private owners in total. It comes with some interesting history including the original sales invoice, correspondence between the first owner and the selling dealer, old Swedish MOT papers going back to 1970, Jaguar heritage certificate and receipts for the recent restoration work.If you have a classic Jaguar that you would like to sell please let us know here.
