Description

The Porsche 959 or the Jaguar XJ220, which do you choose? That is question that is almost impossible to answer. We'll make it even crazier: the Ferrari F40 or the Jaguar XJ220? To top it off, we now have both the Ferrari F40 and the Jaguar XJ220 close to each other in the showroom and it will not surprise you that visitors flock to admire these cars’s ad infinitum. As such, they are legends of both brands, that much is clear. The 1994 Jaguar XJ220 is a car that pushed the boundaries of automotive engineering and design, and it remains one of the most iconic supercars ever produced. Designed with the goal of being the ultimate hypercar, the XJ220 emerged from Jaguar’s rich history in motorsports and was developed in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), the team behind Jaguar's successful endurance racing cars.In 1988, Jaguar introduced the concept model of this XJ220, and Jaguar alluded to their great past success with the model name. You probably guessed it: the 1948 Jaguar XK120. What Jaguar did very well was the fact that Jaguar referred to the top speed of the car with the XK120 and did so in exactly the same way with the XJ220 - 220 miles per hour to be exact, or 354 kilometers per hour. Did you know that the concept car was created by numerous engineers and designers in their own time? This, of course, made it into the history books with the name the ‘The Saturday Club’. At the head of the design team was Prof. Jim Randle, whose vision was to create a Group B car that would feel very much at home on the road, but certainly not inferior on the track. And of course, the car had to become Jaguar's calling card so that it would become an outright rival to the Ferrari F40 and the Porsche 959. The concept car shared many components with the Jaguar Group C race car’s such as the engine and chassis, but also received all-wheel drive and the typical Jaguar elements such as a fairly luxurious interior for a car of this segment. So the purpose of this concept car was to show what Jaguar had to offer rather than to put the car into production. When the XJ220 was first announced, demand was overwhelming. Jaguar received more than 1,500 down payments of £50,000 each, underscoring the immense enthusiasm surrounding this car. The original prototype featured a 6.2-liter V12, but by the time the XJ220 went into production in 1992, it had a completely different heart: a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 derived from Jaguar's XJR-10 and XJR-11 race cars. This engine produced a whopping 542 horsepower, enabling the XJ220 to reach a top speed of more than 350 mph, with stunning acceleration from 0 to 160 mph in just 7.9 seconds.Despite its impressive performance and innovative design, the XJ220 faced some challenges. Changes in specifications, including the switch from a V12 to a V6, and a sharp increase in the base price from £290,000 to £403,000 (including VAT) caused many orders to be canceled. Moreover, the economic recession of the early 1990s caused the market for supercars like the XJ220 to shrink significantly. Ultimately, only about 270-280 examples of this remarkable car were produced, making it a rare and highly sought-after car to this day. This particular example, first registered in Switzerland on February 24, 1994, is a true time capsule and is in completely original condition. We assure you: you will go back to 1994 because the car is practically in new condition. With only 7,500 kilometers and ééone single owner since new, this XJ220 is one of the most pristine examples to be found. The car is in very good condition, attesting to the meticulous maintenance and loving treatment it has received over the years. The accompanying documentation, including original factory specifications and a Swiss Carte Grise, confirms the authenticity and exceptional preservation of this car. The XJ220 remains one of the fastest and most impressive Jaguars ever, and this example offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of that motorsport history. Are you interested in this insane Jaguar XJ220?
