Description

The Jaguar XK 150 was introduced in 1957 as the third and final evolution of Jaguar’s XK series, following the XK 120 and XK 140. While the XK 120 was still heavily influenced by postwar sports car design, the Jaguar XK 150 featured a more refined character with a wider body, improved brakes, and a more sophisticated finish. The model was available as a Fixed Head Coupé, Drophead Coupé, and Open Two-Seater, with the open-top versions being highly regarded for their combination of elegance and sporty engineering.

Within the XK series, the Jaguar XK 150 held an important place because it marked the transition to Jaguar’s signature combination of performance and practicality. The car remained true to the six-cylinder XK concept with twin overhead camshafts, which had defined Jaguar’s reputation as a sports car brand starting with the XK 120. For the XK 150, the body was further modernized, with streamlined fenders and front end. By 1960, the model was in its final years of production, just before the debut of the E-Type in 1961, which largely took over the sports car segment.

The Jaguar XK 150 was produced in various versions and is now considered one of the last classic Jaguars with a distinct 1950s look. The Drophead Coupé was one of the more luxurious and user-friendly open-top variants, featuring fixed windows, a well-finished soft top, and an emphasis on touring comfort. This combination has helped the Jaguar XK 150 maintain a strong presence both historically and in today’s classic car market.

Approximately 150,000 euros have been invested in this Jaguar XK 150 Drophead over the past few years, with invoices available. The car was intended for use as a daily-driver classic and was driven extensively during that period. It has also been driven recently, retaining its practical character.

The overdrive functions smoothly, the powertrain shows no vibrations while driving, and the engine accelerates well. The bodywork is neatly executed. The interior is beautifully finished and retains a well-worn character, fitting for an older classic with a clear history of use. The combination of long-distance capability, open-top design, and mechanical refinement distinguishes this model from many of its contemporaries.

In its day, the Jaguar XK 150 was regarded as the most advanced XK, with improved handling and braking technology. The Drophead Coupé offers a balance between sporty proportions and comfort-oriented design. The current owner is downsizing his collection, which is why the car is now for sale.

This 1960 Jaguar XK 150 Drophead represents the final phase of Jaguar’s XK series, blending distinctive 1950s style with a history of practical use. The available documentation, investments made, and driving characteristics give the car a notable profile within the classic car segment. Viewing is recommended to get a full impression.
