Description

The Jaguar E-Type was introduced in 1961 as a rear-wheel-drive grand tourer, initially available as a two-seat coupe and a two-seat convertible. The 2+2 variant of the coupe was introduced later. Early versions were designated as Series I and Series 1½, followed by the Series II and Series III. The Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 2+2 represents the culmination of this development line.

The Series I was equipped with a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine, also used in the XK150S, producing 265 pk and reaching a top speed of 241 km/h. For the Series III, a 5.3-liter twelve-cylinder engine replaced previous engines. With 272 pk, performance remained competitive despite increased dimensions. The twelve-cylinder engine was developed to rival American V8s and Italian twelve-cylinder models. The Series III V12 2+2 combined comfort, extra interior space, and a larger V12 engine.

To accommodate the V12, the Series III had a longer wheelbase, and the coupe was configured as a 2+2 as standard. The car offers four seats, though the rear seats are limited in practicality and can serve as additional luggage space when folded down. The Series III features a wider body, longer doors, and additional air intakes below the grille and in the hood.

Externally, the Series III is distinguishable by its wider body, flared fenders, and a "birdcage" grille design. It also features disc wheels and a V12 logo on the rear. These elements reflect the technical modifications for the twelve-cylinder engine.

This example is equipped with an automatic transmission, standard power steering, electronic ignition, and ventilated brake discs. A total of 5,182 left-hand-drive Series III V12 coupes were built, making it a relatively rare variant.

The vehicle is in decent condition with a Dutch license plate. The engine runs, but due to a long period of inactivity, it requires thorough inspection before being put back into service. There are noticeable leaks in the fuel system.

The 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 2+2 features a longer wheelbase, 2+2 seating, and distinctive Series III details. It is equipped with an automatic transmission, power steering, electronic ignition, and ventilated brake discs.
