JAGUAR D TYPE REPLICA USV 441 Jaguar built 18 ‘works’ and 53 ‘customer’ D Type sports racing cars between 1954 and 1956. D Types won The Le Mans 24hr Race 3 years running in the mid 1950’s. In 1956 & ‘57 the race was won by Ecurie Ecosse D Types in the famous ‘Flag Metallic Blue livery’ of the Edinburgh based racing team. This car is a recreation of a 1955 Ecurie Ecosse D Type. With so few D Types built, original cars now command very high prices. The 1956 Le Mans winning D Type (which looks almost identical to this car!) was sold at the Pebble Beach auction for 16.6 million in August 2016, so the only realistic way of enjoying a D Type today is with a replica. This D Type evocation was constructed in 2010 based upon a 1967 Jaguar 420 saloon which donated its engine block and a small part of the bulkhead. The car was manufactured and built by Revival Motorsport using a tubular steel spaceframe chassis designed by Adrian Reynard of Reynard Racing. The bodywork is Kevlar/GRP composite. The 4.2 litre XK engine has been completely rebuilt and tuned to produce 285 bhp - as the car weighs only 930 Kg, performance is very rapid! The car is fitted with several authentic D Type components including the steering wheel, the Smiths instruments and the lightweight Dunlop alloys. Several adaptations from original D Type specification have been made to make the car more ‘road friendly’ rather than race track focussed. These include Jaguar derived independent rear suspension, a Tremec 5 speed gearbox and Triple SU carburettors rather than Webers or fuel injection. There are no driver aids such as power steering, ABS or traction control making for a very stimulating driving experience! USV 441 was commissioned in early 2010 by a gentleman from the south west of England. The correspondence to him from Revival Motorsports detailing the agreed specification and the British Racing Green paint finish can be found at the end of this section of the handbook. The second owner was Chris Beauvoisin from Gloucestershire, well known in classic Jaguar circles as the founder and president of the Jaguar C & D Type Club. At the time he bought the car Chris was engaged in a self-build project of a C Type and he only drove the D Type occasionally during the next two years covering less than 200 miles. He arranged for the D Type to be displayed in the showroom of his local garage more to create additional space in his workshop at home than in any expectation of selling the car. Within a week a local gentleman saw the car and purchased it on the spot, writing a substantial cheque for the full asking price! The next owner made a series of upgrades such as a color change to the Ecurie Ecosse Flag Metallic Blue in the style of the Le mans winning cars. The current owner is a Belgian collector has had her on Belgian plates since 2019 and has kept her up in perfect order. Please contact us for more information, detailed pictures or an appointment.
