The Lancia Beta Monte Carlo, known internally as Type 137, is a mid-engine sports car produced between 1975 and 1981. It was available in both coupe and spider body styles. The car was initially intended to serve as the successor to Pininfarina’s Fiat 124 Coupe but became a standalone model when Fiat chose the X1/9—a Bertone design—as its successor. The Montecarlo was the first car developed and built entirely by Pininfarina.
In 1975, the production model was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Due to the oil crisis, the original 3-liter engine behind the front seats was replaced by a 2-liter twin-cam engine delivering 120 hp. With this upgrade, the Montecarlo reached a top speed of over 190 km/h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds. A total of 7,798 units were produced by 1982.
This azure blue 1978 Lancia Beta Montecarlo Spider has only 51,211 km on the odometer. It was originally delivered new in Italy and has been registered in the Netherlands since 1984. The odometer reading is original, and this is an unrestored example in very neat original condition.
