A unique Lea Francis 14 H.P. Sports Two-Seater. According to the factory build sheet this rare Lea Francis was built in the summer of 1948. Mr Ross first registered it in England on the 17th August 1948. The beautifully designed aluminium bodywork only weighed 1,000 kg and in combination with the powerful 1800 engine it had extremely good driving characteristics. Of the original production run of 188 only 46 have survived worldwide. Only one however has a unique race provenance, and it just happens to be this car. It successfully completed the ‘Rally des Alpes’ in 1950. This 1,600-kilometre rally went straight through the Alps in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Mr Ross finished 8th overall, a very high place considering the competition of the Jaguar sponsored XK 120’s! The unique history of this Lea Francis has been excellently recorded. There is even a 1956 invoice relating to a rebuild as well as rally papers, a 50’s rally photo book, a handbook and many maintenance invoices. The splendid bodywork has a unique patina, bringing the saying ‘it is only original once’ to mind! Mechanically it is in excellent working order and drives beautifully. It has clocked up some 10,000 miles since the last rebuild. This is truly a rare car with a matching exceptional rallying history, allowing it access to any rallying event worldwide.
