motodrome offer for sale this superlative 1968 Ford Lotus Cortina Mark 2
This one, a Mark 2 Series 1b, has a wonderful story to tell, having been in single ownership since 1978.
The last owner, a master vehicle technician, had it as part of his collection, and we’re told that, apart from new front wings and sills and a repaint in the original iconic Ermine White with green flash in 1993, it’s never had any panelwork.
He’s used it very sparingly over the years, and insists the ultra-low odometer reading of 13000 miles is genuine.
Around 2015 and 1500 miles ago, the original matching number 1558cc engine was removed, ostensibly to cure several oil leaks that had developed. However, the owner changed direction and opted to fit £7000 worth of later 1583cc Lotus motor with Burton Power uprated internals, Kent Cams, big valve head etc, which reputedly is good for 150bhp. A new clutch and radiator were also fitted at the same time.
We are in possession of the original matching-number engine, which will come with the car.
Brakes, suspension and steering are all standard spec – apart from the above, the only mods we’re aware of are the period Minilite wheels, a stainless exhaust, electronic ignition, and a woodrim steering wheel.
Considering it was last repainted over 30 years ago, it still looks absolutely stunning, and the underside is as clean as the top surfaces.
It comes with a copious amount of history etc including lots of handwritten notes
Not a cheap Lotus Cortina by any means, but likely one of the very best out there, and it’s price reflects that. Come and see it for yourself (by prior appointment) and you’ll no doubt agree.
