Description

The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was introduced in 1955 as a sporty roadster with a design similar to the 300 SL but with simpler construction. It was intended as a more accessible alternative within the Mercedes-Benz sports car lineup, appealing to those who valued open-air driving, a beautifully finished body, and user-friendly technology. The model was produced until 1963 and remains an important part of the brand’s postwar history.

Limited in production, the 190 SL has secured a strong position in the classic car market. Unlike the 300 SL, it was not a pure sports car but a luxury touring vehicle with a sporty appearance. This 1961 190 SL belongs to the later, more refined phase of its production.

Delivered new in the Netherlands, this example was owned by a single family for many years. The same family also purchased two Mercedes-Benz Pagoda SLs—one red and one white. These three Mercedes-Benz SL models are included in this auction, reuniting them after a long time and adding historical context to this collection.

The 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a two-seater convertible with a steel body and a separate soft top. It features a front-mounted four-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive, making it a more conventional counterpart to the 300 SL. The model combines the appearance of a sporty roadster with a design typical of Mercedes-Benz in the 1950s and early 1960s.

This example is in neat condition and drives well. Both the interior and exterior are in good shape, as is the soft top. The odometer reading is considered reasonable by the RDW. The distinctive lines, compact proportions, and open body highlight the model’s identity and set it apart from many contemporaries.

This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is in good, roadworthy condition with a well-maintained interior, exterior, and soft top. To get a better impression, attending the viewing day is recommended.
