Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 16V W201 1986
Owned by the first owner until 2018, this car was serviced by the same Swiss dealer up to a mileage of 137,157 km. It is in exceptionally original condition and well-maintained, with documentation available. Original documentation includes delivery and owner’s manuals.
This iconic model features the legendary 2.3-liter 16-valve Cosworth engine and a 5-speed manual “Dogleg” transmission. It is equipped with sought-after options such as a Recaro leather sport interior, air conditioning, and professionally detailed in 2026.
History and Documentation:
Delivered new on August 13, 1986, in Milan, Italy, this car remained with its first owner until at least 2018. Up to 137,157 km in 2008, it was regularly maintained at a Mercedes dealership in Lugano, Switzerland. In 2026, the car was imported from Italy and professionally detailed, leaving it in pristine condition. A folder with original documentation from the 1980s, including delivery and service booklets, ownership history, and service invoices, is included.
Exterior:
The entire car is in very original condition with no visible damage, properly aligned body panels, and no rust. Unlike the standard 190E, the 2.3/16V came with an aerodynamics package, including a special front bumper with a spoiler, side skirts, fender flares, and a rear wing. It was only available in silver and Blauschwarz (color code 199), which is the original color of this example. The paint has a beautiful sheen, with some imperfections due to age that highlight its originality. The original wheels are fitted with Pirelli tires, which still have sufficient tread. The windows, lights, and rubber seals are in good condition. The car is equipped with optional side turn signals (SA code 341), which were offered in the 1980s when not legally required in many European countries.
Interior:
The interior configuration is well-documented through SA codes. SA code 586 indicates manual air conditioning and power windows all around. SA code 466 refers to the central locking system operated via Mercedes-Benz’s pneumatic vacuum system, allowing simultaneous locking of doors and fuel filler door—a luxury feature in the 1980s. The car features an all-black/anthracite leather interior (SA code 271) with four Recaro sports seats, including two sportily shaped rear seats instead of a traditional bench. The center console houses three additional gauges: a stopwatch/lap timer, oil temperature gauge, and voltmeter, inspired by motorsport. The interior is in exceptionally original and good condition, with leather upholstery free of damage or wear, and gauges, buttons, dashboard, steering wheel, and headliner all well-preserved, giving it a nearly new feel.
Technical:
The 190E 2.3-16 was developed as a homologation model for racing, with a clear link to motorsports. It was not just a sporty version of the W201 but a specially developed model with advanced technical features.
