Description

The Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Automatic is part of the W113 series, introduced in 1963 as the successor to the 230 SL. It was later offered as the 250 SL and 280 SL. This series was nicknamed the "Pagoda" due to the shape of its hardtop. The W113 was developed as an open-top two-seater Gran Turismo, emphasizing structural integrity, driving comfort, and ease of use. It positioned itself between sports cars and luxurious touring convertibles.

The 280 SL Automatic was the final and most powerful variant of the W113 generation. Production ran from 1967 to 1971, with the model designation referring to its 2.8-liter inline-six engine. It was the most advanced version within the lineup, featuring technical refinements that marked its final iteration. The W113 was popular internationally for its craftsmanship, compact exterior dimensions, and removable hardtop.

This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Automatic was built during a period when the model was well established. Its silver finish complements its classic look. The car was restored between 1993 and 1996, with an invoice available for the restoration. It has had two owners who drove it very little. The first owner’s ownership is documented from 1998 to September 2015, with 6,960 km on the odometer. The second owner has owned the vehicle since September 2015, bringing the total mileage to 17,515 km.

The car features an automatic transmission, enhancing its character as a comfortable touring car. It has a steel body, a removable hardtop, and a soft top, making it practical in various weather conditions. The hardtop is in the car’s original silver color, and the soft top is blue fabric. The vehicle comes with a maintenance history and registration certificate no. 38666728. The last major service was performed at Sterren Service Centrum Elburg in 2020 at 11,055 km, with an invoice available. The documented history supports the vehicle’s provenance.

This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Automatic is a sought-after model within the W113 series, featuring a restored history, documented mileage, and comprehensive documentation. Its combination of a silver body, blue fabric top, hardtop, and service records makes it easily traceable. Interested buyers are encouraged to attend the viewing day.
