Vehicle history:

The body of the Mercedes-Benz 300 d was a novelty at the time and was referred to as a “hardtop saloon”. As the rear part of the side window was removable, the roof looked like a hardtop when viewed from the side, light and floating. Like its direct predecessors, the 300 d was exorbitantly expensive. The new car cost DM 27,000. Only 3,037 saloons were built in total. The 300 d was popularly nicknamed the Adenauer because the first German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer insisted on being chauffeured exclusively in a 300 d.
According to the available data card, this 300 d was first delivered in New York. It had a special paint finish in silver grey metallic (DB180) and a special leather interior in blue (1092) with grey piping. The rear seat bench is still in the original leather. This classic car has been in Germany since 1991 and in current ownership since 2005. The existing old vehicle registration document shows two previous owners. Between 2010 and 2012, this Adenauer was extensively restored at Mercedes-Benz Leseberg in Hamburg. All invoices from Mercedes workshops since 2002 are on hand. The extensive factory equipment is what makes this car so special.
