This California 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL has 118,677 miles and is powered by an unmodified 4.5 liter V8 mated to an automatic transmission. Nicely preserved inside and out with possibly the best color combination with Light Blue Eggshell factory paint and a rich Tan/Camel interior. The car is such an eye-catcher that it has been featured in movies and photo shoots. The seller is offering this early R107 in the Los Angeles area with its factory hardtop and a clean California title.
The slim factory chrome bumper, factory 14″ Bundt alloy wheels, exterior brightwork, and signature grille are all in great shape. The body is straight throughout with consistent panel fit and no rust or corrosion issues. There is a slight bend in one of the panels by the door, there is one nick in the paint on the passenger side door that is smaller than a penny, and there is one dimple on the back of the trunk. The soft top and hardtop are both in great condition.
The crack-free dashboard, carpeting, door panels, and trim are all well preserved. The edges of the seats show a little cracking and wear. The early 3-point seat belts with slotted holders for the shoulder strap remain in place.
A Panasonic CD player has been installed but it comes with the factor radio which can be reinstalled. Speakers were replaced last year. The instrumentation, power windows, exterior lighting, signals, horn, windshield wipers, and heater are all in working condition. The A/C and compressor work, but the system does not blow very cold.
Work performed over the past four years by the highly respected Classic German Motors in Pasadena, CA, includes new suspension, new Hankook tires, new A/C compressor, cleaning the fuel tank, and fuel pump, fuel lines. replacing the power steering gear box.
Under the hood, the 4.5 liter V8 is believed original and is mated to an automatic transmission. The engine bay presents nicely in pictures with the seller stating that all factory ID tags and stampings remain present on the core support. The car starts easily, runs strong, the shifting sticks a little going from first to second, but has good oil pressure readings, and no known fluid leaks.
