The upper class convertible internal W113 was presented at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. Due to the inwardly curved hard top that was also available, it was nicknamed the Pagoda. The W113 was the successor to the Mercedes 190 SL and 300 SL. It was a great success for Mercedes, because a total of 48,912 models were delivered up to 1971. The Pagoda was the first SL in which extensive safety measures were introduced (stiffer passenger cell, crumple zones, later safety telescopic steering column, seat belts and impact absorber in the steering wheel). The SL series was also equipped with a dual-circuit braking system and front disc brakes, gas pressure shock absorbers and radial tires. The design comes from the legendary designer Paul Bracq.
The 230 SL offered here is very special and unique. According to the Mercedes Classic Center, it was first diverted to Mozambique. In addition to the color combination Ivory 670, the first owner ordered the extremely rare 5-speed gearbox with a rear axle ratio of 1: 4.08 and km display (code 230). This Mercedes came from Mozambique to Portugal to its 2nd owner, who shut it down at the beginning of this century. In 2015 Scuderia Sportiva Colonia had the opportunity to purchase this Mercedes Benz and subjected it to a complete "nuts & bolts" restoration. Now completed, this Mercedes convinces with its elegant color combination. The engine and the gearbox are of course "matching". All work has been carried out professionally and properly and the new owner can look forward to an almost brand-new convertible.
