Description

HIGHLIGHTS: One family owned since new! Offered for sale for the first time since it was new! Time-capsule, 3.8L-powered, two-door time machine!

BODY OVERVIEW: The body on this 1988 Mercury Cougar is in impressive original condition! The mileage of 32,444 is correct and the condition of the car shows it. There are some 'Grandma damages' here and there, as seen in the photos, but overall this is a very clean, original 1980s Mercury product.

PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: It is no secret the Ford was cutting costs on everything in the 1980s, especially their paint. More specifically, the white paint of this era left something to be desired as it aged. There are some paint defects shown in the photos, but as a whole the original white paint has been kept up over the years, including some repairs here and there. See photos for paint condition.

INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: The interior is gray cloth that looks almost new! With 32,000 miles on the clock, some minor creasing and wear is expected, but the seats show well and really validate the mileage. The dash plastic, headliner, and sunvisors are showing their age despite the mileage–an unfortunate side effect of cost-cutting measures of the era. Interior defects are shown in the photos.

MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: Though the 5.0L V8 was offered for these cars, and many surviving examples are equipped with just that, this particular model has its original 3.8L V6, which is a nice surprise. While it may not be the sleeper you're looking for, this car is truly a representative sample of the "regular" cars of the era. The 3.8L runs smoothly, and is ample power for any individual content with leisurely driving.

WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: The overall originality and known ownership history! This is a car you just don't see this nice these days.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: Barring personal tastes, this car would be very difficult to dislike.

DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? The horn and radio are not currently operational. The temperature gauge does not work, and the driver's window needs some help to go up and down.

WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? Low-mileage cars like this can be tough to make a decision on what to do with it. Sort it out and drive it? Leave it as-is and add it to a collection? The choice is yours! No matter what you have in mind, this Cougar is in great condition and is being offered at a price many enthusiasts can afford.
