Description

The MG B has the task of ensuring a difficult succession. If it is designed with reference to its predecessor, the MGA, whose traditional clientele it must retain, the new car — which must remain an MG in spirit — is also aimed at a new target of enthusiasts demanding less spartan and more of security. This is the determining element of the specifications, much more than the level of performance.

If it is in line with the roadsters that have made the reputation of MG, the new car thus marks an important evolution compared to the MGA. Much less typical, it moves away by its philosophy from the traditional English roadster with a wild temperament in order to appeal to a very wide audience. In particular to American buyers, the overseas market being the priority outlet for British sports cars.

Presented in September 1962 at the Earls Court Motor Show, the MG B appeared as a comfortable convertible with a civilized character. Thanks to this new personality and a very attractive sale price, it will seduce nearly 400,000 enthusiasts around the world until its withdrawal in 1980. Its abandonment by Leyland, which will sacrifice it to the Triumph TR7, will cause great emotion. in Great Britain. Produced for 18 years, the MG B appears to be the most widely distributed collector's convertible in history.

The copy that we present to you today was marketed on the American market (its odometer in miles as well as the repeaters do not deceive). Arrived in France in 1993, it has always known meticulous owners who are eager to keep it in very good condition, almost like the first day. When it was adopted by its first French owner, it was able to pass through the FFVE, in order to obtain registration as a collector's vehicle.

From an aesthetic point of view, this car presents very well. Having been renovated and maintained by its successive owners throughout its life, it has therefore not suffered the disasters of corrosion and was only reserved for use on sunny days. The multitude of invoices bears witness to the care that has been taken. The tonneau cover and the soft top are also in very good condition, as is the upholstery.

The biggest works carried out on this car were carried out between 2006 and 2010 and consist of:

- Engine removal for complete restoration (cylinder head tightening, rocker arm adjustment, vacuum capsule, cleaning and carburetor adjustment, installation of electronic advance corrector, brake shoes replaced, etc.)
- Repair of carpets, seats and runners, change of soundproofing floor plates.
- Bodywork treatment, change of the windshield seal
- Installation of an electronic ignition kit, a radiator with adjustable calorstat, change of hoses.

To sum up, if you are looking for a perfect car for cruising with the wind in your hair, and which remains affordable to maintain, this MG B Cabriolet is made for you.
