The MG B GT V8 is one of the later and most technically interesting variants in the MG B series. Introduced in 1962 as the successor to the MGA, the MG B marked a significant step forward for MG with a modern monocoque body. The GT version, introduced in 1965, featured a closed body with a hatchback rear, making it a more practical sports car. The MG B GT V8 combines this GT platform with a V8 engine, offering a unique driving experience in a relatively compact car.
Developed during a period of increasing competition from European and American sports coupes, MG utilized the aluminum Rover V8 engine, which originated from Buick and was further developed in England into a lightweight, compact powerplant. This represented a radical technical change from the standard four-cylinder MG B. Production of the MG B GT V8 began in 1973 and was relatively short-lived, contributing to the rarity of well-preserved examples.
Limited in production and positioned as a more expensive alternative to standard MG B models, the MG B GT V8 has carved out its own niche among British classics. It represents a transition between traditional MG sports cars and the more powerful grand tourers of the 1970s. This 1968 model year falls within the early period of the MG B series, indicating it is from the first years of production.
This model stands out technically due to its V8 engine in a body originally designed for four cylinders. It required specific technical solutions and tuning, making it the most distinctive variant within the MG B family while maintaining the recognizable GT silhouette.
This particular example comes with additional documentation and features exterior modifications. The car is in running condition.
