Description

This 52 TD has been with the same family for the last 25 years.

It was purchased as a rough running, tan over tan TD, ready for restoration.

That's what she got.

Everything was gone through, taken down to bare metal, the replacement engine rebuilt, 4 speed trans rebuilt, shocks, brakes, etc. rebuilt.

The end result is this multiple show winning example you see here.

Despite the new engine and beautiful looks, the car had trouble getting up the very steep hill near their home, so in 2018 a supercharger was added to the mix. The engine was pulled and rebuilt again to match the compression and power the blower would add. While the odometer shows just over 12,000 miles, there is less than 4000 on the engine. The 12000 is since the restoration.

The engine is an XPAG 1250 but a replacement unit, not the original engine for the car.

The supercharger is from Mirage Garage and has a single SU carb mounted to it.

New top, new side curtains, new black leather upholstery, new carpets, new Jaeger gauges, including a boost gauge for the blower. The axles have been changed to accept the true knock off wire wheels. Coker wide whites in 165R15 size F&R, fog lights ( the owner can't remember how they are turned on and with the multiple switches on and under the dash, I couldn't get them on), the headlights are halogen and one does not work, it has a flood light that does operate correctly and it is equipped with a turn signals, the switch also includes emergency flashers.

The gauges all work as they should.

The interior is in show condition with minimal wear, the fabric top is beautiful and there are no tears or wear on the black leather seats.

It has an optional chrome luggage rack mounted above the rear fuel tank and a matching spare below that. LED taillights let people know when your stopping and turning.

The yellow paint is near perfect with only about 5 very minute chips that have been touched up and nearly invisible. The paint on the top of the driver door is a little scuffed, but only visible when right on top of it.

Under the hood there is wear on the paint where it rests on the radiator guard.

This is truly a #2 car and many folks who have judged it, based on the numerous awards, feel it might be just a bit better.

The underside is clean and rust free, everything in nearly new condition.

Once you fold yourself into the car, you'll be surprised at how much leg room there is .. maybe not a lot of foot room, at least not for size 12's, even in driving shoes, but planed placement makes it pretty easy for even a 6'1" 200lb person to drive her.

Pull the choke, turn the key, give two pumps to the accelerator, press the starter button and she hardly even turns over before she starts. The tappets clicking away, purposely adjusted to factory specs to be just a little loose. The supercharger doesn't make any noticeable noise, but it can be felt as it has produced roughly 30% more HP and torque. The engine was dyno'd and shows 65 HP and 75 lb ft.

First gear is very steep and not really necessary to get her rolling. The four speed shifts very smoothly and easily helps the cars reach 50+ mph. When sitting just inches from the pavement, with no power steering, no power brakes and the brakes all being drum, one doesn't need much more than 50 MPH to feel like you're doing a lot more.

This a great little car that is totally turn key, very well maintained, ready to hop in and drive, bring to a show, whatever floats your boat.

The asking price is $27,500
