1953 MG TD – Restoration Project with Volvo B18 Drivetrain
Imported by us from Oregon, USA, this late 1953 MG TD (chassis TD22060) is a solid project for full restoration or as a donor for another MG build. Originally finished in green with matching trim, later repainted in black and turquoise.
The car was fitted in the past with a Volvo B18 1.8-litre engine, standard 4-speed gearbox (non-overdrive) and Volvo rear axle with wider wheels. The front suspension carries a period conversion to disc brakes with Lockheed calipers. The engine is currently seized and will require rebuilding or replacement.
At extra cost, an MGA drivetrain (engine, gearbox and rear axle for overhaul) is available.
During transport, the bonnet was lost — a used replacement (without handles) is already on its way from the USA by sea freight. Missing items include the bumpers, running boards and soft-top frame. An extra set of used hub caps is included.
The chassis shows only surface corrosion and remains sound. The wood structure appears good, and no through corrosion has been found on the body panels. The dashboard retains its original instruments (odometer reading 95,144 miles).
A former Oregon registration permit and a British car meeting badge suggest the car remained in use until at least 2004. Comes with US title (Oregon) and Dutch customs document, import duties paid.
A worthy candidate for restoration or MG-based special.
