HISTORY AND DOCUMENTATION
The MG TC is one of the most iconic British sports cars of the 1940s and is often regarded as the car that sparked a worldwide passion for classic roadsters. This particular example was delivered in 1948, primarily to the United States. In 2003, it came into the possession of its first and current Dutch owner, who has owned it for 23 years. During this time, the car has been cherished and used for classic car events such as the Elfsteden classic car rally. The engine was overhauled, and the car has been well maintained. It is stored indoors. A folder with extensive documentation is included, containing appraisal reports, invoices for parts, a registration certificate from 1996, and maintenance records.
In 2025, the car was appraised at €33,000.
EXTERIOR
The paintwork was professionally applied in British Racing Green and remains in good condition. It pairs beautifully with the beige linen top. While not mint, the paint operates smoothly and the body is in sleek, pristine condition with no signs of rust or damage. The car’s original condition is preserved, with only slight signs of wear. Chrome trim, lights, windows, and weatherstripping are all in good condition. The gray-painted spoke wheels are likewise well maintained. A badge bar is prominently displayed beneath the color-matched grille. The blue license plates feature luxurious raised lettering. The MG TC has a classic appearance with separate fenders, spoke wheels, a narrow grille, and an open two-seater body, embodying British automotive history.
INTERIOR
The interior features green leather upholstery in good condition, free of tears or damage. The wood-trimmed dashboard houses characteristic instruments and a 1956 Pebble Beach badge. Floor mats and side panels are also in good condition, with only the center console showing slight wear. The odometer does not register mileage accurately. The interior is minimalist yet charming, with a large steering wheel that connects the driver directly to the car’s mechanics.
TECHNICAL
The MG TC has been well maintained over the years, with parts replaced as needed. The engine was overhauled in the Netherlands in 2010, during which the steering gear was adjusted. No expense has been spared to keep the car in good running condition. The undercarriage is in good condition with no rust. New T/T Classic tires have been fitted around the vehicle. A service was performed in 2024. The car drives, brakes, and shifts well.
GENERAL
Built between 1945 and 1949, the MG TC was based on the pre-war MG TB. Despite its simple design, it made a significant impression thanks to its light weight, open body, and pure driving experience. Under the hood is a 1.25-liter four-cylinder engine producing approximately 54 horsepower. While modest by today’s standards, its light weight and compact build offered surprisingly sporty performance for its time. The car features a four-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, providing a pure and mechanical driving feel.
An interesting fact is that the MG TC became hugely popular in the United States, despite being primarily intended for the British market. American soldiers stationed in Europe after World War II often took MGs home with them, sparking a lasting legacy.
