The history of the Opel GT goes back to 1965, when Opel showed a styling concept at the Paris and Frankfurt Autosalons. The visitors were so enthusiastic that Opel continued with the project and launched the GT in 1968. With technology borrowed from the Kadett B and its appearance often mentioned in ééone breath with that of the Corvette C3 presented at the end of 1967. Thus, the sporty-lined and reliable coupé has everything to become a success. Where the design looks quite American, the size and technology is so European: with a length of 4.11 meters and a 1.1-liter four-cylinder with 60 hp, the buyer does not immediately get the urge to take on his adult example on a dragstrip. Fortunately, Opel also offers a more powerful 1.9-liter variant that, with 90 hp, has considerably less trouble with the 940-kg sports car. It is therefore logical that the 1,897 cc four-cylinder is the engine of choice for the glitzy Blitz. This ochre yellow GT dates from 1972 and has been completely restored. Photos of the restoration highlight the "completely bare method" of then rebuilding the GT to perfection to its current state. As a result, the condition of the steel body and paintwork are excellent, with neatly closing panels. The seams of the trunk lid are even completely missing: Opel didn't really think an easily accessible luggage compartment was necessary. Things that need to go with you will therefore be brought in through the normal doors, and once there, the very neat interior catches the eye. Neat seats, carpet in new condition and also a dashboard that is very clean. The steering wheel is original and shows some signs of use. Defects or damage are foreign to the Opel, the pleasant and compact living space in the GT do atmospheric.Driving the GT like the best, the technique is also thoroughly addressed in the restoration. The 1900 four-cylinder is right on target, making the light coupé a pleasure to drive. Because of that same light weight, the GT also steers excellently. It goes without saying that the bottom is in just as fresh a condition as the top. The Opel GT is not an everyday appearance, while as a user car it is an extremely suitable choice. In short: do you want to enjoy a car that distinguishes itself but does not cause surprises: the GT is the car for you!
