Description

Riviera MotorSports is proud to present 1 of only 200 produced matching numbers 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Stradale. The image posted in the advert is for representation purpose only. Images and supporting documents will be provided upon serious request.

The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 is a mid-engined , four-wheel drive car produced in 200 units necessary for Group B homologation. With the EVO versions the French company participated in the World Rally Championships from 1984 to 1986, winning two constructors' titles and two drivers' titles. In 1987 he took part in the Pharaohs Rally and the Paris-Dakar where he also raced in the following two years and won in 1987 and 1988.
In 1981 the FIA established Group B, starting from the following year, to replace Group 4 and Group 5 . The category was tailor-made for the large car manufacturers in order to freely experiment with new technical discoveries and at the same time compete for overall victory. Furthermore, the technical restrictions were few and favored the design of very high performance cars. Peugeot, like other major world manufacturers, decided to try its hand in this category by participating in the World Rally Championship . The car with which would compete was the 205 Turbo 16, a car which, unlike some of its rivals of the time, was to be considered a prototype in all respects as it had no point of contact with Peugeot's series production and which only shared the aesthetics and name with the popular 205 small car for marketing reasons.
The regulation provided for the production of at least 200 cars in a year for the homologation of the model and possibly the production of another 20 examples per year to homologate new evolution versions which were granted ample margins for processing compared to the homologation cars; in reality the manufacturers first designed and produced the 20 EVOs ready for racing and then put on the market a batch of 200 less performing cars necessary for homologation. So in 1983 the Sochaux company put on the market the 200 cars called 205 Turbo 16 30 approximately with the pearl white color and the remaining Dark Grey.
It was an extreme car, despite the road approval and very demanding. The configuration follows what was considered the best for rallies at the time: mid-engine as on the Lancia Stratos and 037 , for optimal weight distribution, and all-wheel drive as on the Audi Quattro for maximum road holding.
The engine is a 4- cylinder in-line with a displacement of 1,779 cm³ , the distribution is twin camshaft with a 16-valve head , it is supercharged by a KKK turbocharger with a maximum pressure of 0.7 bar , for a power of 200 HP at 6,750 rpm per minute, is placed transversely behind the passenger and is inclined backwards by 20° while the intercooler is placed behind the driver to cool the air coming from the turbo and destined for the intake manifolds thanks to the large air intake lateral. This particular configuration causes a bit of oversteer in long left turns as the weight distribution is shifted more to the right. The gearbox is a 5-speed gearbox aligned with the crankshaft, which is located immediately behind the driver's seat, and has a clear sporting inspiration with a short lever and close-spaced clutches. This berlinetta reaches a top speed of 209 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.
