The Porsche 964 was introduced in the late 1980s as the successor to the Carrera 3.2. From a distance, it still clearly resembles a 911. The round headlights, sloping roofline, and rear-mounted six-cylinder engine remain recognizable. However, underneath that shape, virtually everything had changed.
At the time, Porsche described it as a 911 that was about 85 percent new. The bumpers were more seamlessly integrated into the body, the traditional torsion bars were replaced by coil springs, and for the first time, a production 911 came standard with power steering and ABS. The Carrera 4 was also introduced.
The first 964 model came equipped with all-wheel drive from the start. Based on experience with the Porsche 959, the system distributed drive power to all four wheels. While this didn’t make the 911 completely predictable on wet roads, it significantly increased confidence and effectiveness. You can still feel the engine in the rear and hear the characteristic sounds of the car.
Under the trunk lid lies a 3.6-liter air-cooled six-cylinder engine producing approximately 250 horsepower, paired with a manual transmission. The manual transmission remains a highlight, offering a mechanical feel that enthusiasts cherish—the clutch, shift lever movement, and the engine’s surge after each gear change.
This 1992 model has had only two owners. After its first German owner, it was imported to the Netherlands, where it remained with the same owner for 32 years. That’s a long-term relationship, not a fleeting one.
