The Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S belongs to the 993 generation, Porsche’s last air-cooled 911 series. The 993 debuted in the early 1990s as the successor to the 964 and represented a significant technical leap in the development of the 911. The bodywork was redesigned, featuring wider fenders and an integrated rear spoiler, among other changes, while the chassis and powertrain were further refined. As a result, the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S combined the classic 911 concept with the modernization that characterized the 993 generation.
The 4S version held a special position within the lineup. This model was introduced later in the 993’s lifecycle and was technically and visually close to the Turbo, but without the turbocharged engine. For the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S, this meant, among other things, the wide body and all-wheel drive—features that gave the car a unique place within the 911 lineup. Production of the 993 generation continued until 1998, after which the water-cooled 996 followed. Within the air-cooled 911 family, the 993 is therefore often regarded as the final phase of an important technical era.
A total of 6,948 Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S models were built. The 1996 model year falls within the first years of production for this variant. The car has had five owners. The fourth owner purchased the car in February 2015 from Porsche Eindhoven with a mileage of 74,901 and drove no more than 1,400 kilometers in six years. The fifth owner bought the car in June 2021 through Porsche Eindhoven, with a pre-purchase inspection and a mileage of 76,288. Over the past five years, an additional 1,300 kilometers have been added. The car has been regularly maintained during this period.
The Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S stands out for its combination of the wide body of the Turbo line and the naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine of the Carrera. This made the 4S a model that visually aligned with the more powerful Turbo models, while its underlying technology was derived from the standard 911 series. Within the 993 generation, this was one of the models with the most pronounced handling and presence.
Documentation is also important for the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S. The inclusion of a Geburtskunde and the documented ownership history provide the car with a clear lineage within the model’s history. The combination of a limited production run, a late and sought-after 993 variant, and a verifiable chain of ownership makes this Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S a unique model within the 911 lineup.
The 1996 Porsche 911 3.6 Coupé 4S is a 993-generation 911 with all-wheel drive, a wide body, and a production run of 6,948 units. The car has a documented ownership history, a Geburtskunde, and has seen limited use in recent years. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend attending the viewing day.
