1983 Renault 5 Alpine Turbo
Iconic hot hatch in excellent condition with only 98,000 km mileage. It features a stunning deep black exterior with a red interior. The car is equipped with a 1.4-liter turbo engine producing 111 pk.
History and Documentation
This iconic hot hatch was delivered new on June 20, 1983, in Udine, Italy. It has been tastefully configured and remains in excellent, original condition, making it a top-notch example. The original delivery document is included. At the time of sale, the car was priced at 12,355,000 Italian lire. The original license plate was retained until 2026, when the car was transported to the Netherlands. It also comes with documentation from a classic car club and a wheel alignment report from 2026. In 2024, the Renault underwent a service in Buja, in the Udine region, where it was originally delivered.
Exterior
The jet-black paint has a beautiful sheen and looks almost new. It contrasts nicely with the red interior. The low mileage has resulted in a well-preserved car with beautiful paintwork and virtually flawless rubber and plastic body parts. The lighting is in excellent condition. The 13-inch Alpine rims are in very good shape, fitted with Yokohama tires that are still in good condition.
Notable details include sporty grilles next to the rear window, handle-less doors, pop-out rear windows, a distinctive fuel cap, an air intake on the hood, and side turn signals integrated into Renault’s window-shaped logo. The body is very solid and original, with well-aligned seams. Options include front fog lights, high-gloss black paint, and side striping.
Interior
The interior is very well-equipped for a hatchback from the 1980s, featuring integrated headrests, a tachometer, a turbo pressure gauge, alloy wheels, a rear window wiper, and a heated rear window. The windows are tinted. It also has a radio-cassette player and a sport steering wheel.
The front seats offer lateral support and headrests. The interior is in very good condition with minimal signs of wear. The floor mats, side panels, and dashboard are well-maintained with no damage. The trunk is neat and tidy.
Technical
The turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 111 pk and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission, driving the front wheels. Thanks to its low weight of around 850 kilograms, it offers a favorable power-to-weight ratio and nimble performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 9 seconds and reaches a top speed of approximately 185 km/h.
The car features independent suspension and disc brakes, providing sporty and direct handling. The turbo response is characteristic, with limited power at low RPMs and a sudden boost as pressure builds, creating a spirited driving experience with noticeable turbo lag. The engine compartment is neat and dry. It comes with a maintenance report from 2024.
Overall, the 1983 Renault 5 Alpine Turbo is a compact hot hatch that stood out in the early 1980s for its lightweight, front-wheel drive, and turbo technology, offering nimble performance and a spirited driving experience.
