Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 9th October on Thursday the 9th of October. Background:Designed and built by Alpine at their Dieppe factory on the Normandy coast, the Renault 5 Alpine Turbo – badged as the Gordini Turbo in the UK – was named in honour of Amédée Gordini, Renault’s legendary performance tuner. Launched in 1982, it represented the final iteration of the Renault 5 before the platform was replaced by the second generation GT Turbo in 1985. Offering turbocharged performance in a compact and lightweight package, the Gordini Turbo delivered brisk performance with French flair, making it one of the more charismatic hot-hatches of the 1980s.
With just 13 known survivors currently registered in the UK, the model has become one of the rarest of the period. This example, first registered in July 1984, is among the very last produced.
The Car:Supplied new by Roundabout Garages of Chelsea to a lady owner, this 1984 Gordini Turbo has covered 69,000 miles, supported by a comprehensive MOT and service history. The original sales invoice, dated 1984 and showing a purchase price of £5,500, is included along with a wealth of supporting documentation spanning decades of careful ownership.
Unrestored but well maintained, the car remains in highly presentable condition with only minor lacquer peel noted on one door. A matching Gordini alloy spare wheel is fitted and the original jack and tools are included. The interior is original and tidy, while the silver exterior shows well with consistent panel fit and honest patina.
Mechanically, the car has benefited from a full engine rebuild in 2001 by Renault competition specialist Salv Sacco, a gearbox rebuild and the fitment of a new Garrett turbocharger supplied by Turbo Technics. The carburettor has recently been rebuilt and new rear suspension mounts have also been fitted. A clever pre-heat system, installed by a previous custodian, eliminates the need for manual choke operation and improves cold starts.
MOT-exempt and dry stored for the past three years, the car has remained on the button and ready to use thanks to routine upkeep, it will also come with a Gordini spare alloy as well as the spare in the boot.

Rebuilt carburettor
